Education and Energy is a Minnesota-based nonprofit founded in 2017. Our mission is to provide high school students with access to applied learning opportunities so they can easily navigate their collegiate and professional lives with confidence. Our Energy and Entrepreneurship Summer Seminar gives students exposure to several industry areas so that each learner can explore what excites him or her. We focus on the energy industry, but teach subjects and skills that are relevant to a wide range of professional pursuits, and we give students guidance they need to narrow in on a professional path. We aim to offer content that is: interesting, varied, and applied. These values form the three pillars that our organization is based on.
It is no secret that many students don’t enjoy the subjects they learn about in high school, and this makes it very hard to choose a college major. That’s why we’ve created a seminar that gets right to the good parts of each subject. Our Energyshops will give you answers to questions like: how the hell do batteries work? Why don’t we all drive hydrogen powered cars? What determines my electricity bill? And why is it cheaper to put up solar panels in Kansas than in Minnesota ? Meanwhile, our Start-Up Lab will answer questions like: how do I build a solar phone charger? How do designers create products we use every day? And how do business people decide which products are worth pursuing which ones should be left on the drawing board?
Most college readiness programs are created to teach students only one major discipline over a long period of time. But chances are a program like this doesn’t work for you, because you have NO IDEA what it is you want to do with your life. That’s why the Energy and Entrepreneurship Summer Seminar is designed to give you a comprehensive view of several college majors and careers within one industry – Energy. Our Energyshops cover 4 different college majors and our Start-Up Lab gives you hands-on experience in 3 different industry divisions. Our goal is to give you the tools to find out for yourself what you like and what you DON’T like so that you don’t have to waste time trying out classes at random when you get to college.
Have you ever taken a class that was so outdated, irrelevant, and boring that it seemed like it was created 30 years ago? Well, that’s probably because it was…At E&E we want to expose you to the content and tools relevant to today’s industries. Our Energyshops will give you a challenging introduction into some of the most cutting-edge ideas in science, engineering, business, and policy making. Meanwhile, our Start-Up Lab will give you the chance to solve a problem plaguing millennials everywhere – how on earth do I keep my phone from dying when I’m on the go? While building your solution you’ll gain practice implementing the engineering, design, and business tools that modern companies use every day in order to stay relevant in our fast-moving world.
